Bubs Australia has signed an agreement with Alibaba Group and opened a flagship store on its Tmall Global platform. Its entire range of goat's milk infant formula products will be available on Tmall Global and it expects its global merchandise value (GMV) will be above $1million in its first year.

It has also completed a manufacturing deal with Australian Deloraine Dairy that will allow it to use its Dandenong South, Victoria, manufacturing plant. The plant is registered with China's Food and Drug Administrator (CFDA) - only one of 15 local manufacturers - opening the way for Bubs' infant formula to also be sold in physical stores.

Bubs founder and managing director Kristy Carr said Alibaba is one off the world's largest retailers and its second-largest category is mother and baby products, spearheaded by infant formula products. She said Bubs' Tmall store will significantly broaden its reach to Chinese parents, with the platform increasing cross-border sales coming from specialised infant formula and goat milk products by 8.8 percent last year.

"As the only Australian vertically integrated producer of goat milk infant formula we will be in a unique position to offer Chinese parents comfort that we have complete control over the quality and scalability of our supply chain back to the farm gate," said Ms Carr.

Bubs promotes the benefits of goats' digestibility compared with cows' milk. The company says the unique structure of proteins and fats in goats' milk result in softer casein curds, making it easier to digest, less bitter to taste and having a higher mineral content.
